Instructions
Prepare the Oven and Cupcake Pan
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin pan with paper cupcake liners and set aside.
Mix the Dry Ingredients
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set the mixture aside.
Cream the Butter and Sugar
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar with an electric mixer for about 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Combine the Ingredients
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and finish with the dry ingredients.
- Mix gently until everything is just combined. Avoid overmixing, as this can make the cupcakes dense.
Fill the Cupcake Liners
- Divide the cupcake batter evenly among the prepared liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
Bake the Cupcakes
- Place the muffin pan in the preheated oven and bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes. Transfer them to a cooling rack and let them cool completely before decorating.
Prepare the Buttercream Frosting
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until incorporated. Add the vanilla extract and heavy cream. Beat for another 2–3 minutes until the frosting becomes light and fluffy.
Add the Christmas Colors
- Divide the buttercream into separate bowls.
- - Leave one portion white.
- - Add green food coloring to another portion.
- - Add red food coloring to the remaining portion if desired.
- Mix each portion until the color is evenly distributed.
Decorate the Cupcakes
- Transfer the frosting into piping bags fitted with your preferred piping tips.
- Pipe swirls of frosting onto the completely cooled cupcakes. Use green frosting to create Christmas tree shapes, or white frosting for a snowy winter look.
- Finish with Christmas sprinkles, edible stars, sugar pearls, and crushed peppermint candy.
Serve
- Arrange the decorated Christmas cupcakes on a festive serving platter. Serve immediately or store them in an airtight container until ready to enjoy.
